At Highfield we see developing confident writers and life long readers as our core purpose. We know that young people who enjoy reading very much are nearly five times as likely to read above the expected level for their age (National Literacy Trust 2012). With this in mind we promote literacy, and reading in particular, to keep it to the forefront of our curriculum and school ethos.
Our literacy curriculum extends well beyond the typical literacy lesson through guided reading sessions, silent reading, class texts, theme based application of literacy skills, outdoor learning opportunities, speaking and listening opportunities and much more.
We incorporate, although not exclusively, the Read Write Inc model of teaching and learning and schemes of work. Please click on links below to find out how the RWI scheme supports the school in delivering the aims of the National Curriculum.
