History:

After studying how crime and punishment has changed in Britain from the Roman Era through to Victorian times, we've come a long way! At no point so far has there been mention of the people that spring to mind when we think about crime and punishment - the police! That is because until 1829.

Before a police force was established, the streets of London were governed by the Bow Street Runners.

Your task is to research and present the changes in Policing from the introduction of the Bow Street Runners, through the establishment of the police force. You may want to explain how the police in the early stages were very different to what we know of the police today.

 Music:

Today we are going to start session 1 of a 2-part lesson all about a music trailblazer named  Gra┼╝yna Bacewicz.

She was a trailblazer for 3 reasons:

1) She was female and nearly all composers were male at the time that she wrote music.

2) She managed to compose music during WW2, when Poland was occupied by the German army.

3) She incorporated Morse code (a series of taps which were different combinations and lengths) which was used to send messages during WW2.

Read through this powerpoint to find out about her life and the background of 'Overture'.

Then, watch the orchestral performance on slide 8.

Task 1 - After listening to the piece, think of a story that reflects the music. Use slide 9 to help you.

Task 2 - Look at the Morse code chart on slide 10. Choose a simple word such as 'day' or 'ship' and try to tap out the code. Use slide 11 and this link to help you.

Challenge - find a beat and make a short sentence!

PE:

This week is National School Sport Week!

This year for National School Sport Week the Youth Sports Trust is trying to unite the country through sport. The idea is to celebrate the power that sport has to bring people together to capture the challenge, camaraderie and enjoyment we might be missing.

Below are two documents which can help you celebrate National School Sport Week. The first one outlines how to join in and the second document has examples of activities you can try.

This flowchart shows you how you can join in and most importantly share what are doing using #NSSWtogether and sending it to @HPS_Urmston.
