English:

Well done on all your hard work last week - I had some brillaintly detailed alien recounts and planet advertisements sent to the class email so thank you very much.

This week we are going to practise some important key knowledge and skills for English in Lower Key Stage 2.

Today's learning is related to word types - nounds, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.

It is importnat to know the difference between these types of word and recognise their jobs.

In this activity, identify when words are used as a noun (person, place or thing) or verb (action or 'doing word').

For example:

'I have piano practice today' - the word practice is a noun here because piano practice is a thing (a lesson)

'I need to practise my piano today' - the word practise is a verb here because it is something the person will do.

Notice the spelling change here too - this understanding helps you to use the correct versio of the word.

Here is a nice colouring activity which sorts between verbs and nouns too.

Being able to write speech accuratley is a very important skill. Inverted commas (speech marks) let the reader know when to change their voice to use appropriate expression. A reported verb (e.g. whispered or yelled) indicates how things have been said. Using a comma between the speech and the reported verb part of the sentence helps seprate them.

Today's activity is about using speech punctuation to write quotes for a newspaper article about your alien events.

If you can go outside and use chalk on your driveways, pavements etc to share your science learning this would be brilliant (please send photos to the class email) but if this is not possible then paper and pencil
