History:
Watch this video to learn about why child crime was rife during the Georgian(1714-1830) and Victorian (1837-1901) eras in Britain.
Think about what you learnt last week about transportation and prison hulks, and your knew knowledge on what life was like for children transported to Australia.
Your task is to write a letter to a loved one as a 9, 10 or 11 year old boy or girl facing a 7 or 14 year transportation sentence.
Think about how you would feel in that situation. Don't forget that even once you were set free after the term of the punishment, it is very unlikely that you would ever have the money to return to your home. Most children knew that once they were on those ships, they would never see their friends or family again.
