Aims and Ethos

 C.A.R.E.

Our school motto is CARE - the initial letters stand for:

 Consideration              Aspiration                   Responsibility                Enjoyment

We want to ensure that at Highfield we truly CARE about the education and welfare of all pupils and the community as a whole.

Consideration – we expect to see people being thoughtful and helpful; people who think about other people's feelings; people who respect different points of view; people who respect our diverse community; people who make us feel welcome and included.

Aspiration – we expect to see people who are determined to do well; people who want to improve; people who are resilient and don't give up; people who are problem solvers and critical thinkers; people who know their aims, goals and targets.

Responsibility – we expect to see people taking responsibility for their learning and behaviour; people who can organise themselves; people who can look after other people and school property; people who have jobs and are reliable.

Enjoyment – We expect to see people who enjoy each others company; people who enjoy being in school; people who enjoy learning; people who have fun. Enjoyment is important because happy children do (learn) well.

 READY RESPECTFUL SAFE

At Highfield our school mantra is Ready Respectful Safe. This mantra is repeated regularly so that the children are very familiar with it and know what they need to be doing to follow it.

Ready- this includes children learning to get themselves ready for the school day with everything they need such as book bag, reading book, homework books, P.E kits and lunch boxes, as well as getting to school on time. It also means they are ready to learn in and out of class, and ready to follow adult's instructions such as stopping when whistles are blown or the hands up signal is given.

Respectful- children are expected to listen to others, but also to be listened to by others, all while speaking with appropriate language and tone. They learn to build positive relationships with everyone in our Highfield family, and respect and tolerate everyone’s individual differences and beliefs. They also are expected to be respectful to our school and local environment.

Safe- children are taught to use all equipment safely and to move around school, including outdoor areas, in a safe way. They understand how to report any problems to adults and understand the importance of keeping their hands and feet to themselves. They also learn how to be safe when using internet and electronic equipment both inside and outside of school.
