Arts Week

At Highfield we celebrated our first biennial arts week on Monday 3rd February to Friday 7th February. To keep this in line with our ongoing Artsmark process we focussed on all of the arts, including poetry, literature, drama, music and dance, as well as art and design, and scheduled the week to coincide with National Story Telling Week. As well as exploring all avenues of the arts the children were tasked to produce 1 quality piece of art work which would be displayed in our art exhibition. The theme of the exhibition was Street Art and each class interpreted this theme in their own way. Across the week children planned, designed and created their unique piece of art, using techniques and processes that were new to them, as well as learning more about the origins of Street Art.

We then held a whole school art exhibition in conjunction with MyMasterpiece, a registered Artsmark partner. The children's work was professionally framed and displayed on exhibition stands in the school hall and all of the parents and children were invited to come and view them. Parents also had the opportunity to buy their child's artwork to take home and display. Comments from both parents and children were really positive about the exhibition, and the children were so excited to see their work framed and were very keen to show it off to their family. We look forward to informing you how much money we raised for the school through the exhibition and to letting you know what arts activity we have decided to spend the money on.
