School Uniform
From September 2026 Highfield will have an 'active' school uniform.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
It is the Governors’ Policy that all children at Highfield Primary School should wear school uniform. School uniform gives children a sense of identity with their school and it is hoped that they will be proud to wear their Highfield active uniform.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE LABEL ALL ITEMS OF CLOTHING
Why we are changing:
- Research and practice show that children who are comfortable and appropriately dressed for movement are more likely to take part confidently in active learning, play and physical activity.
- Comfortable, practical clothing reduces barriers to spontaneous activity, supports better posture and movement, and is linked to improved concentration, mood and emotional well‑being.
- This small change supports our Highfield vision: children who enjoy learning, and who are physically and mentally well enough to engage fully in school life.

Please note: these are modest adjustments to make uniform more practical and affordable for an active school day. We are not changing our expectations for presentation: children should still be tidy, have hair appropriately tied back, and no jewellery (except stud earrings / watches) in line with the new active uniform policy.
- Elite School Uniforms in Chorlton will stock our school jumpers and fleeces at a very competitive price. The supplier has offered to further support affordability by offering discounted bundles / starter packages. All other items of uniform are available from supermarkets, online shops.
- Health & safety: shoes must be safe for movement and play (flat, secure and appropriate for the playground and hall). If you have specific concerns about medical or sensory needs for your child, please contact Mrs Lewis (sen@highfield-primary.trafford.sch.uk),the office or your child’s teacher so we can make reasonable adjustments.
Next steps
- The transition to new uniform is September 2026 . We will inform you when the supplier has stock available to purchase (expected to be end of May / early June). Please see overleaf for visual examples of acceptable / non-acceptable active uniform for bottoms / footwear.
