ENGLISH
At Highfield we see developing confident writers and life long readers as our core purpose. We know that young people who enjoy reading very much are nearly five times as likely to read above the expected level for their age (National Literacy Trust 2012). With this in mind we promote English, and reading in particular, to keep it to the forefront of our curriculum and school ethos.
Our English curriculum extends well beyond the typical English lesson through guided reading sessions, silent reading, whole class texts, theme based application of English skills, outdoor learning opportunities, speaking and listening opportunities and much more.
